Raber goes wire-to-wire to win Pacific Coast Am
Despite a late slip, Tyler Raber went wire-to-wire to win the Pacific Coast Amateur.
Raber, who built a six-shot lead through 13 holes July 26, bogeyed three of the final five holes but still won by three shots. Raber shot 2-over 72 Friday and finished at 8-under 272 at Capilano Golf & Country Club in West Vancouver, British Columbia.
Cory McElyea, a senior at the University of San Francisco, was second at 5-under 275. Jonathan Sanders and Eric Sugimoto tied for third at 4-under 276.
Raber, who played college golf at UC Davis, took charge from the start with a tournament-best 7-under 63 in the opening round. His round was one shot off the course record. Raber, ranked 282nd in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, won the 2012 Trans-Mississippi Championship.
Defending champion David Fink tied for fifth.
